Spelling Bee, MLK, and an Awesome Craft...

This week was all about Martin Luther King, Jr.  With a day off on Monday, the rest of the week was quiet busy.  We finished out MLK unit and the students published some amazing All About MLK Reports.  I just love how much they have grown in their writing and how creative they are becoming. We also created the MOST ADORABLE craft!   They turned out so awesome and look great in the classroom.

It was also District Spelling Bee Time.  I found a cute cup idea for Valentine's Day on Pinterest so I thought I would change it for our spelling bee.  They turned out so cute and the participants loved them. Don't you just love Pinterest?!  I don't know what I did before it :) Our District Bee was for 4th-6th grade.

I bought the cups and straws at Smart and Final.  I created the Bee Tags.

Our MLK Reports. You can find the MLK writing paper on my TPT Store for FREE!!
These are the resources we used for our MLK Reports.  You can find the Mini Book on my TPT Store and the MLK Facts Organizer is a writing bundle FREEBIE on my TPT Store.  You can Find the MLK Was, Has, and Wanted Organizer from What the Teacher Wants TPT Store.

How cute is this craft?! This craft is from Teacher to the Core's TPT Store.

These are all of the MLK crafts hanging in my room.  I have to say they turned out so cute!

Stay tuned to see what we do next week...

Just Me January Linky

I'm excited to be linking up with Kinder Sisters.

My name!
Jessica Peterson

What is your hometown/state?
Born in Watsonville, CA
Grew Up in Caruthers, CA
Live in Fresno, CA

Are you a morning or night person?
Morning Person.  I love getting to school early.  I am that person that wakes up early on the weekends to do my grocery shopping.  I  must say, I love shopping when most are still sleeping.

Are you a collector of anything?
I don't really collect anything but do have a couple things that I love.  I would have to say I am a little obsessed with Tory Burch shoes.  Being a teacher and on my feet all day long her flats are so comfortable.

What is the most used app on your smart phone?
TPT and Instagram.  I love checking Instagram.  Especially love seeing all the wonderful things going on in teachers classrooms.

What is your favorite cereal?
I love Rice Chex.  I know that sounds boring but I love them.  I probably eat a bowl of cereal once a week.

What is the oldest pair of shoes in your closet?
My wedding shoes.  They are over six years old.  I just love my wedding shoes.  I had them dyed royal blue for my something blue.

What is your favorite snack?
I love to snack on chocolate.  Don't judge me. I love chocolate, all types of chocolate.

City or country?
This is a hard one for me.  I grew up in the country but I love the city.  Sitting outside on a summer night in the country is breathtaking.  You can see all the stars and get lost in the sky.  It is so relaxing and peaceful.  But then, there is San Francisco.  A city full of color, food, and of course shopping!  There is so much to love about both, so I choose both!

What is your favorite thing about teaching?
There is so much… This is my first year teaching first grade.  I love listening to my students' read.  It puts a smile on my face every single day!!!  Seeing their faces in the morning is also one of my favorite things.   They are so full of life, happiness, and love.  They are so sweet and innocent.  Teaching is such a blessing!

I'm Blogging & Winter Break is coming to an end…

I'm so excited to be blogging! I feel like this is the perfect start to my 2014 school year.

My winter break is coming to an end as I start back on Monday.  The highlights of my winter break was being able to spend time with my husband and spending two days with my dad.  My husband and I are so busy during the week we don't spend a lot of time together.  I spent 4 weekdays with him and it was awesome!! I truly enjoy spending time with him.   My dad spent the day with me and we went to Hobby Lobby for the first time! I must say I am a huge fan.  My dad was so patient with me. I thought for sure he would have been rushing me but by the time I was ready to leave I actually had to look for him.  We then had lunch and then came to my house to change a roman tub faucet.  That was a task of it's own.  For some reason every time we change something in our house we have to go back to the store at least 3 times! It was pretty much the same this time.  It was all worth it though.  We had a blast.

From Top left: My basket at Hobby Lobby. My kitchen and the items I bought from Hobby Lobby. The new roman bath faucet. My husband and I at dinner on Christmas Eve.

I must say I am excited to go back but not excited about the 5:15 am alarm clock.  I can't wait to see my firsties and hear all about their break.  I'm also ready to get back into a routine.  This last week off was a very lazy one.  For the first time since I've been off I actually slept in.  And by sleeping in I mean until 9:30 am.  That is so late for me.  Let's not forget the staying up late and watching TV.  I'm hoping tonight I can get back into the routine of going to bed early and waking up early.  We shall see…  Now off to printing and planning for this upcoming week.  Did I mention I have an unannounced 45 minute formal observation these first two week back :(

Stay tuned, I will be talking about my first week back and all the exciting stories I have.
