Five For Friday

I'm excited to be linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for Five For Friday!
I was sent these lovely flowers by my grade-level.  I completed BTSA this week, which as you know is SO exciting.  I have the best grade level co-workers! They also threw a potluck for me on Tuesday.

As I just mentioned above, I completed BTSA.  It was a long 2 years but I am done...Yay!!!

This week was all about Mother's Day.  We decided to make some notepads for the moms.  I used clips from Melonheadz. (I'm slightly addicted to her clips.)  I actually love the way they turned out.  I found some super cute bling pencils from Michael's that we included so they hand something to write with.

The second part of our Mother's Day gift was a picture and a magnet.  I made a Happy Mother's Day chalkboard sign and the kids took a picture holding the sign. The magnet was so cute and very easy.  I bought some clothespins and covered them with some cute polka-dot washi tape.  We glued a magnet on the back and a cute rhinestone on the front.

For the card I decided to do something a little different.  We created a card that folded and tied.  On the inside the kids wrote a message to their mom.  I used different types of card stock that I had.  They made a matching Mother's Day Tag that we put on a popsicle stick.  We used this to hang out of the gift bag.  I was very happy with their gifts and they were ecstatic!

Finally, it was Teacher Appreciation Week.  Our Admin Staff made these awesome gifts for us and also provided a breakfast.  I have some awesome Admin and Co-Workers!!

That's all for now. Check in to see what Room 13 is up to next week.  Have a wonderful and restful weekend!!

A ZOO-tastic Week

We had a Zoo-tastic week! On Tuesday, our class went to the Chaffee Zoo.  My students' had so much fun! I on the other hand was a complete stress case.  It's a little nerve wracking accounting for 21 little ones that get excited and jet off.  Don't worry when we got back all students were accounted for :)

They loved seeing all the animals! There were so many too.  I hadn't been to the Chaffee Zoo in years and couldn't believe how big it is.

They loved Sting Ray Bay

This was truly our favorite. Sea Lion Cove was
A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!

When I saw this it cracked me up. I'm on the same diet as a turtle :)

I created a Zoo Guide/Emergency Contact book for my students'.  I loved the way they turned out.  I was amazed to see them actually pulling out the map and using it.  It was very cute! Oh how they have grown so much.

I put their Zoo Guide and snack in this ziplock bag.  Each student wore one.  I loved this idea! My teacher friend, Jamie Huerta came up with it.
Since we took a trip to the zoo, it was only fitting that we write about our experience.  This week I had my students' peer edit their paper.  I have to say I was so surprised at how well they did.  I was so happy with the final product and did I mention they peer edited (As you can tell I'm very excited about this)!

Lastly, we are working on nonstandard units of measurement.  For the math lesson it required that each student use paper clips.  As you can imagine that could be a little crazy for first graders (and probably extremely stressful for this OCD teacher).  I figured sine I have measurement clipart by the AMAZING Melonheadz I would put it to use.  I created  paper clip rulers for each student.  Each student received four rulers, two for in class and two for at home.   I also created a pencil ruler as well.

That's all for now.  Have a wonderful weekend and remember to check back next week to see what Room 13 is up to!
