A New Year!!!

Oh how it's been too long.  I am actually blogging! Needless to say I've been very busy but I am very excited to be blogging again.  This is my first week back from Winter break, which was 3 weeks! YES, I said 3 weeks.  It was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G but went by too fast.

I am still teaching 1st grade.  I just love my Firsties!  We started our Mini Unit on Martin Luther King Jr.  I just love teaching my students about him and they love learning about him.  We read a MLK Mini book, which you can find in my TPT Store for $1.00. YES, I said $1.00.  We then wrote an informative piece on MLK.  I use many graphic organizers for writing.  For my students, especially my EL students it helps them organizer their writing and thoughts.  The MLK writing organizers can be found in my TPT store for free!  You know we can't write without making a craft.  We made the most adorable Martin Luther King's.  You can find this craft by Teacher to the Core.  I just love her crafts!

We also started math centers this week.  Yes, we just started them.  I have had a difficult time with math this year.  Our new math curriculum has so many components which has  made it hard to find time for centers.  Over break I decided I need to just find the time and start centers.  We actually got to centers twice this week.  I am now incorporating Math centers in the morning after math meeting.  I am allowing about 20 minutes for centers.  I know this isn't a lot of time and no my students do not rotate from center to center, but this is what works for my class and students right now.  They really enjoyed them.  I also feel they have matured over break and can now handle centers.  Oh how I just love January!!!  I feel the kids really mature over the break.

Well that is it for today.  I'll be back next week to tell you about our Polar Bear Unit!!
