If I were President... Valentine's Day Fun

This week we learned all about Presidents' Day.  I decided to have my students' write about, If I were President...  Their ideas were so touching.  We just finished reading about Cesar Chavez and in that story it talked about how Cesar Chavez helped crop pickers get better homes.  I think this really stuck with them because many of them wrote about this.
Our craft turned out very cute.  I let them draw their own face and also cut their own hair.  I love how creative they are.  I got this idea from Pinterest.

I found an awesome peer editing worksheet.  It is a freebie on TPT.  It was fun watching my students edit each others writing.

For math, we have been reviewing greater than, less than, and equal to.  I decided to make some larger numbers and have my students use their arms as the alligator sign.  After all, we were all hungry alligators and we wanted to eat the greatest number.  I would have my tens place step forward to decide if we could compare.  If the numbers were the same, the tens place would step back and then the ones place would step forward.  We would then decide which number was greatest, least, or equal to.

This really helped my lower students who struggle with two digit numbers.  I have some students that really struggle with two digit numbers, so I knew I needed to simplify the process for them.
I wanted to share some personal pictures this week.  I am a huge CrossFit addict.  I started many years ago and I just love it.  For Valentine's Day the gym I attend hosted a Tuff Love couples competition.  My husband and I decided to participate.  This was the first time we have ever competed together.  I have to say it was a blast.  There were a total of 19 teams and my  husband and I placed 4th.  We were pretty excited.  The best part was spending time with so many people we just love.
Here is Gary and I during the first part of the workout.
Carrie, Me, Gina
These are two of our dearest friends, Richie and Gina.  We just love them!!

Well that is all for now.  Check back next week to see what Room 13 is up to.

100th Day, When I'm 100, and Valentine's Day

We celebrated our 100th Day of School on Tuesday.  We had a blast.  I decided to create a photo booth for my students.  I had this idea of buying fabric for the backdrop but when I went to Joann's I couldn't find anything I loved.  I decided to turn to my right hand man, Pinterest! I found the most amazing idea of creating a rainbow backdrop using plastic table covers.  So off to Walmart I went.  Each table cover was only 97 cents!! I was pretty excited.

Here is a picture of my living room while making the backdrop.

Here is the final product.  I was so excited and very much in love. I couldn't wait to get to school.

I also made them some 100th Day Smarter cookies.  I created the template.  I will be adding it to my TPT Store as a Freebie.

The students worked on a 100th Day of School packet that I created.  You can find it by clicking on the image for only $2.00.

When the students walked in they were pretty excited.  They all wanted to know what the backdrop was for.  They really loved taking pictures.

Of course us teachers had to take some 100th day photos.  Have I told you how much I just adore my co-workers.  They really do ROCK.

In honor of the 100th Day of School we decided to write about, When I'm 100.  My co-worker Kristen, did this last year with her kindergarten class and they were so adorable. Their ideas about being 100 are pretty hilarious.  I used a writing template from Briana Hawks.  It's a Freebie on TPT! This was a great guide for my students.

Okay, so the final product was so stinkin' CUTE!!! I don't know if I'm going to want to take these little ol' guys down.

We also celebrated Valentine's Day today. For our parent gifts I decided to stick with the photo booth theme.  I bought some cute fabric that was on sale at Joann's and used it as a backdrop.  I also used some cute Melonheadz Clips as props.  They turned out really cute.

I made my students some popcorn cups and goodie bags.  They really enjoyed them. I bought the cups and popcorn from Dollar Tree.  The cups are 2 for a Dollar.  I used graphics from Melonheadz Illustrating and Whimsy Clips.

Needless to say I am pretty tired but very glad it is a 3 day weekend!!! Hope you enjoy your weekend and check back next week to see what were are doing for President's Day!

Polar Bears, Penguins, and Groundhogs... Oh MY!!!

Well Room 13 has been so busy.  The last three weeks we've done lots of writing.  We took one week to explore polar bears, another to explore penguins, and last week we explored groundhogs.  For our polar bear and penguin units we read some mini books by the talented, Jamie Huerta.  She has some awesome books and they are only $1.00.  Yup, I said $1.oo.

Check out their crafts!  I have to say, they are just the cutest things.

Our polar bear craft is from FirstGradeBlueSkies.  I'm sure you've heard of her and to  be honest she has the best crafts.  She is so talented!!

For our penguins, I used Melonheadz Illustrating graphics.  How cute are these little guys.  I printed out some lined paper and then just cut the paper in the shape of the penguin.

I have the most amazing book about Polar Bears and Penguins so there was lots of reading about these animals.

Our groundhogs craft was my own creation.  I couldn't really find anything I LOVED so I decided I would just make something.  They are a bit funny looking but still cute.

Hopefully you read all about our 100th Day of School, When I'm 100 writing, and Valentine's Day.... Have a great weekend.
