Back to School NightOn Monday, we had Back to School Night. I love all the different ideas there are for back to school. I used my back to school pamphlet and I also created some goodies for my littles.
I created and gave each student these, re"MARK"able tags. This is a great way to give each student a gift and not have to spend a lot of money.
I also made them goodie bags. I put a pencil, pencil sharpener, and a box of crayons in each bag. I bought my bags from Target. Have I told you how much I love their Dollar Spot?!! I created the pencil tags using Melonheadz Clips.
The First Day of School
I always forget how little first graders are when they start school. I love taking pictures of my students and providing parents with a first day of school photo.
I found a cute, "first day of school" chalkboard from Target. My favorite part of the chalkboard is the section that asks them what they want to be when they grow-up. I told my littles to think about what they want to be. I didn't give them any suggestions because I really wanted it to be authentic. Boy, it WAS!!! Their responses were doctors, nurses, chefs, police officers, teachers, firefighters, and one student said she wants to be a model. This really is my FAVORITE first week memory.
I put their pictures on our smile wall. I keep these pictures up all year. I just love to see how much they have grown by the time the year is over.
Engage NY MathOur school uses Engage NY for math. This week we worked on number bonds and identifying the part, part, whole. While I was walking around I noticed one student had labeled his part, part, whole on his number bond. I just loved this!!!
Kagan StructuresThis summer I attended the Kagan Structures Seminar. I really loved their strategies and structures. I decided that this year I was going to focus on the hands up, stand up, pair up structure. This is our first week of practice but I have to say they are doing pretty good :)
Writing and Craft
I love having my littles write. It's awesome seeing their growth at the end of the year. This week we wrote about, what we're most excited about for first grade. Their ideas were pretty funny!! Many of them wrote they are most excited about playing on the big playground structure (this just cracks me up).
You know we have to create a craft to accompany our writing. This craft is from the amazing FirstGradeBlueSkies. I just love her crafts and packets. The writing pages are also from her pack. Their buses turned out very cute and my classroom is really looking like a 'classroom' with crafts and writing hanging.
YAY it's FRIDAY!!!
If you know me, you know I L-O-V-E my coffee. Friday's are treat day and I pick up a coffee from Dutch Bros. I don't know if you've every had Dutch Bros. but let me tell you, it's AhhhMazing!!! I actually thought my lid was very fitting for my week... "Get Up Early, Stay Up Late, CHANGE THE WORLD." Isn't this the life of a teacher?!
